Adjunct Faculty - Executive Masters in Crisis and Emergency Management Program

Responsibilities

Overview:

Thomas Jefferson University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct Faculty member to join our new Executive Masters in Crisis and Emergency Management Program. The successful candidate will contribute to our mission of providing high-quality education in the field of emergency management. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching at the graduate level with a strong background in emergency management, homeland security, public administration/policy or other closely related field.

  1. Teach graduate courses in the Crisis and Emergency Management program in a completely online format.
  2. Develop course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and assessments that align with program objectives and academic standards.
  3. Foster an inclusive and interactive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation.
  4. Incorporate real-world case studies, simulations, and experiential learning activities to enhance student understanding and application of emergency management principles.
  5. Provide timely feedback and constructive guidance to students to support their academic progress and professional development.
  6. Stay current with industry trends, research findings, and best practices in emergency management and integrate relevant information into course curriculum.
  7. Participate in departmental meetings, faculty development activities, and program assessment initiatives as required.
  8. Collaborate with program faculty and staff to continuously improve the curriculum, instructional materials, and student learning outcomes.


Qualifications

  1. A doctoral degree with a strong background in emergency management, public administration/policy, homeland security, or a closely related field. ABD and Masters degrees with exceptional qualifications will be considered.
  2. Professional experience working in emergency management, disaster response, or related fields.
  3. Prior graduate level teaching experience.
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in curriculum development, instructional design, assessment of student learning and the Canvas learning platform.
  6. Flexibility to teach courses during weekdays, evenings, or weekends, as needed in a completely online environment.


Special Skills/Experience
  1. Additional skills and experience in cybersecurity, GIS, and planning are highly desirable.
