Responsibilities

The College of Life Sciences at Thomas Jefferson University seeks to fill multiple ongoing, full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track, open rank faculty positions in chemistry. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate chemistry education. Educational responsibilities include teaching introductory and upper-level chemistry courses including lectures and labs. Candidates with expertise in organic chemistry and other related fields are especially encouraged to apply. Appointments will be made in one of two categories, the 'Teacher-Scholar' track or the 'Teaching Excellence' track, depending on candidate qualifications and interests.

Successful candidates will participate in university service roles including undergraduate advising, assessment, and committee work. Duties may also include course coordination and supervision of adjunct faculty in multi-section courses. Ideal candidates will have a record of teaching at the undergraduate level and a demonstrated commitment to the pedagogies of active learning aligning with Jefferson's signature Nexus Learning approach. Candidates who will thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment are strongly encouraged. The standard teaching load is 12 credits per semester.

Qualifications

TEACHING EXCELLENCE: Candidates with a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in chemistry or a closely related field are preferred. Candidates with a master's degree and five years of experience in undergraduate science education will also be considered. An active research program is not required, but research into science pedagogy or basic science research adaptable to the inclusion of undergraduate students is desirable.

TEACHER SCHOLAR: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in chemistry or a closely related field. The candidate should have teaching experience as the 'instructor of record' for one or more undergraduate courses. Candidates for the teacher scholar track should be prepared to articulate a research plan that is adaptable to the inclusion of undergraduate students.
